What will this course be about?
Performing Arts refers to competence in a minimum of three performing arts disciplines. Specifically, the qualification recognises demonstrated core knowledge, skills, and competence in; music, music technology and drama.

The National Certificate in Performing Arts General (Level 1) provides a base level of knowledge, skills and competence in performing arts to permit and assist a pathway to further education and training.

What qualification does this count towards?

National Certificate in Performing Arts Level 1 – 45 credits in Levels 1, 2 and 3

What do I need to have done already?

Preference will be given to students who have completed Level 2 Music, though students interested in the course can gain HoD approval if they have sufficient performance and theory skills.

What is the assessment?

100% internally assessed:

  • Composition
  • Arranging
  • Live sound and PA systems
  • Recording opportunities, digital audio technology
  • Performance assessments in group and as a soloist
  • Sound and electronics
  • Aural and theory skills

Students can design a course to cater for their desires and earn unit standards across levels 1, 2, and 3.

What will this course cost?

Cost for stationery as detailed on the stationery list. Students must also provide own headphones, re-writeable CD Rom and 30 minute audio tape. Students must be taking instrumental lessons which cost approximately $25.00 per year and students are expected to have own instrument for practise.

Where does this course lead to?

Career in music industry, higher level performing arts qualifications, career as a music teacher or tutor, tertiary studies in music/performance, tertiary studies in Audio Engineering.

Time allocation: 12 hours per week

 

 
Kevin Roberts

Director: Kevin Roberts has played drums for 20 years and has been involved in the music industry for over 15 years. He has an extensive background in technology, software, sequencing, midi and digital audio recording. Kevin has a diploma in jazz performance studies and a history of eight years of teaching. He is still gigging and writing his own material. His musical likes.....the lot as long as its from the heart.

The department ethos is education through technology that will prepare students for the industry and create multiple opportunities and career pathways.
