Course Structure

TAI POUTINI POLYTECHNIC

The simulator programme:

Unit stands in the modules using the simulators

Classroom and theory work:

Students will also have part of their programme which is classroom work focussed on learning about civil construction and mining, first aid, geology, etc.

Offsite training:

There is a practical component, where students will learning “the real thing”, based at the digger programme in Johns Road. Students will learn how to use the machinery in a restricted environment

The block course:

Work experience component with an industry provider. All the students in the programme will have a Gateway placement, which has already been approved.

 

ARANUI HIGH SCHOOL

For the other half of the programme, students will have the choice of enrolling in a number of senior programmes which are based here at the high school. These range from traditional university entrance programmes at levels 2 or 3, depending on students academic ability,

or

enrolling in another academy programme which fits into the timetable.

A student could for instance, be involved in our sports development or hospitality programmes, to complement the civil construction and mining programme.

The choice of available subjects will depend upon which block the student is completing the offsite work component.

National Certificate in Civil Construction and Mining (Introductory)
