What will this course be about?
This course will give students an understanding of photography, pictures and film processing. Students will gain skills in the use of various camera types. Film processing, photographic development and enlarging will be an important part of the programme. The academy also works with digital photography.

What do I need to have done already?

Level 1 Visual Arts Achievement Standards.

What is the assessment?

Students will be required to spend some of their own time on photographic assignments. There are 3 Unit Standards at level 2 to be completed in the year. Total Credits = 24. All work will be internally assessed.

Activities undertaken to achieve these credits include:
  • Processing and developing film and printing photos
  • Research and expanding on ideas for photography
What will this course cost?

$60.00 this will include a journal, black and white film, chemicals and paper. As well as a disk for the digital camera.

Shaun Murphy

Shaun Murphy: Director
Shaun trained at University of Canterbury and was taught by Lawrence Shustak and Cathryn Shine, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography in 1998. He worked in Japan as an Art Director for an Architectural company, where he used painting and photography in interior design, painting architectural murals (wall paintings) and the supervision of engineers, builders and artists who were contracted to the company. From there he returned to New Zealand to complete a Diploma in Teaching at the Christchurch College of Education. He enjoys the challenge of teaching Photography with its rapid changes in technology. His current interests are Digital Photography and Photoshop.
