Theatre Academy

Over the years, Aranui Academy students have taken out top theatre awards.

What will this course be about?
The Academy is a practical course where students gain the opportunity to create their own theatre, perform n productions and festivals.

What will you need to have done already?

No experience needed, but Levels 1 and 2 Drama is advised before attempting Level 3 credits.

What is the assessment?

Students will be assessed against the NCEA Level 3 Achievement Standards in line with the New Zealand Arts Curriculum (up to 24 credits) and NZQA Level 4 Unit Standards for 2nd year students.

Robert Gilbert

Robert Gilbert – Director began his theatre career in 1981 as a trainee actor for Prospect Theatre Company in Hamilton. He spent the next 7 years performing mostly Theatre-in-education, touring schools around New Zealand.Robert also performed in many main-bill productions for Prospect Theatre Company, Bankside Theatre Company, Troupers, The Christchurch Arts Network, The Court Theatre, and in several television programmes for TVNZ.

His writing and directing credits include productions for The Christchurch Arts Network, Whakarite Theatre Company, Excalibur’s Theatre Restaurant and Aranui High School. He has taught drama for St Julian’s English School in Portugal, The Polynesian Performing Arts Trust, Troupers Stage School, and The Christchurch Drama Centre. Over the last decade, Robert has had regular radio shows on C93FM, Classic Hits, and The Breeze.

Robert has a Bachelor of Arts (Education) degree from Massey University, where he occasionally tutors, and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning from Christchurch College of Education.
